Drop-Off & Pick Up Procedures

Please Note: If there is an emergency change in the way your child goes home, you must call the school before 2:30 pm.

Early Pick Up Information
The only excused reason to pick up your child early from school is if your child has a medical appointment (send the medical note) or if our school nurse has sent your child home.

Early sign-outs must be done through the office before 2:30 pm.

No one will be released through the office after 2:30 pm.

We will not call your student down to the office until you are physically in the office with family number or identification.

May I walk my student to class?

To keep school traffic flowing smoothly and the office less congested, please drop your student off at designated drop off areas.  Parents and visitors are not permitted to walk their child to class. Visitors are welcomed on campus after 8:00 am. 

Is there bus service to/from Rattan?

Bus service is provided for students who live in the Rattan Elementary zone, with the exception of Oak Hollow residents.  Please direct any bus questions to our transportation department at 972.924.1800.

When and how do I drop my child off at Rattan?

For the safety reasons, dropping off students in the parking lot is never allowed.  No early drop-offs before 7:15.

From 7:18-7:25, all students will be dropped off on the south side of the building, by the gymnasium.

After 7:25, all vehicles approaching from the south on Ferguson will continue to use the gym side drop off. All vehicles approaching from the north FM 455, will drop off in the bus lane, in front of the school.

Class starts promptly at 7:55. The first bell rings at 7:50. At that time, students will be released from their gathering area to walk to class. If a child is not yet in his or her classroom at the 7:55 bell, he or she will come to the office for a tardy slip.

When and how do I pick up my child from Rattan?

School is dismissed at 3:10. Please discuss with your student their after-school plans (pick up, walking home, or riding the bus) beforehand so they know what to do each day.  

The car pick up line is the driveway on the south side of the building. The driveway in the front of the school is for buses only, during dismissal. Any person without the family number with them at pick up, will be asked to park, go to the office, and show identification.

Walkers/bike riders will not be released until the buses have departed.

What is the normal dismissal procedure and order?

Walkers first, car & bus same time, Walk ups (with family pass) after buses have left campus.

Can I show up and remove my child from the bus?

No, call before 2:30 pm to make changes to your students transportation. Our bus drivers must follow policy and are not permitted to release students prior to their designated bus stop.  

Can I call to change my child to walker?

No, for safety, send a note with your child that same morning. We can not verify who is on the phone, especially when there are private custody issues.

Can I purchase extra car stickers or family number cards?

Absolutely, if you are on the student's emergency contact list and have permission to pick up! Family number cards are $1 and car stickers are $2.

Who can pick up my student?

The enrolling parent/guardian has permission to add and delete anyone on their student's emergency contact list, as well as give them permission to pick up the student. If the person is not on the list, the student will not be leaving with them. For safety measures, we have to have a written note that morning or add them on the emergency pickup list, so that they may pay for a family number card/car sticker.
